The Five Originals

Iain MacDonald

So Iain, how old are you then?
I don't understand the question...

What was your starring role in the 1983 Show?

I'm just amazed they let me take part!

What does 'Gang Show' mean to you?

Fun and friendship - everything that is good in Scouting and Guiding.

And why do you keep coming back for more?
More fun and more friendship. Also, a little insanity helps too!

Give us a few words about your being an Original.

It is a great privilege to be able to have taken part in all our Shows. To see each Show develop into a top-class performance is wonderful!

What was your starring role in the 2003 Show?

The 2003 Gang were all stars - I'm just one of them!

Give us one word which summarises Gang Show to you.

Magical!

What do you think about the 6-month rehearsal schedule?

Demanding, time-consuming, every Sunday afternoon and every Wednesday evening. But, by April it has all been worth it. Show week in Eden Court Theatre is another world!

Give us some personal comments about Gang Show in Inverness.

The 2003 Show was following a formula that has proved very successful over the years - a fast and pacey Show of song, dance and comedy sketches for all the family. You cannot go wrong with 19 items and over 50 songs, and I've lost count of the dance routines!

My personal favourite is the 'Monks' sketch. We've done it three times (1987, 1995 and 2001), and it's still marvellous fun! The 'Shiverdance' item (1997) was also wonderful - the young people had a fabulous time. As I was going down the stairs from the dressing rooms, I met them coming off the stage and they were floating on air - it was that good!

The views and opinions expressed by The Five Originals are not necessarily those of the Scout Association, and are definitely not those of Inverness Area Gang Show!
