I"ve review once about "x stories" .. Desire to recognize if there is any type of difference between stories and floors.

Or castle are just alias for each other provided in different variations of invernessgangshow.net language?

You are watching: How many floors are in a story

*

The terms are different even despite they can be interchangeably offered a lot.

Floor is where you acquire off or live. Story is a measurement of height.

You would say:

i live ~ above the 10th floor. That structure is 30 stories high.

You would certainly not say:

i live ~ above the 10th story. That structure is 30 floors high.

An example of this is that a many of structures do not have actually a 13th floor. So the human being on the 14th floor would be 13 stories high. Additionally if you had actually a structure with penthouses the were 4 story high and you to be on the 4th floor the the penthouse on the 20th floor of the building, you might be 83 story high.

This is simply the paper definition I"ve heard the terms used in the UK.Stories is the total number of distinct above earth floors a building has. If you refer to an individual level it starts in ~ the floor floor, then first floor, second etc. In the us the UK soil floor is the 1st floor.I haven"t heard a UK first floor referred to as the 2nd story.

In the context you are asking about, storey (UK etc.) and story (US) room both indistinguishable in definition to floor. Floor is openly used alongside storey — I have no factor to think that the use of one of two people term is geographically restricted. (Incidentally, together a dominance of thumb, one storey is around ten feet or 3 metres — view the pertinent Wikipedia page for a more detailed conversation of the term.)

I believe there is a slight difference. I think a floor is a floor and a story is the occupied space above the floor. In many instances the difference in between a floor and also a roof is identified by the lack or visibility of one occupied room above. Begin with the simplest example with a floor at grade and also a roof overhead. Many would take into consideration this a single story framework without the need for a naming convention because that the floor ~ above grade. Add an elevated floor and also you have a two story.

NOOOOO! there is a clean difference!

Take a structure that has 4 levels, consisting of the ground/earth level. That has four stories however three floors. This is due to the fact that the soil floor does not count together a floor. The floor over is first floor, second floor, 3rd floor + the soil floor = three floors, yet 4 stories.
