You are watching: Old double barrel shotguns with hammers
Heavily worn double barreled cartridge loading shotgun with external hammers.Original owner was from Europe (italian) and probably used it around 1900. There is only a "GZ" marking close to the hinge, and an "U" letter above some hardly readable numbers due to rust.Could you please give me an idea of how old could this be and any other info about it?Thank youNathan

Thanks for your replies. Did update above post as suggested. Unfortunately I couldn"t spot any proof marks other than that "GZ".I"d appreciate even wild guesses. Thank you
Odd.Judging from the lack of barrel proof marks, or other discernible markings, combined with the very crude looking metalwork on the water table, I"d say you have a turn of the century trade gun ( likely Belgian). These were unremarkable, poorly produced guns for consumption by the masses, who couldn"t afford a better quality double.Absence of proofs likely means that they are certainly black powder only, and likely have a shorter chamber than 2 3/4" ( probably 2 1/2").Not a value as a shooter, but as a wall hanger. That is pretty dependent on what someone wishes to pay. $40-$100 is my guess.

Given it has the Greener crossbolt and Purdey double bite that puts it post 1880 and the lack of proofs pre-about 1890-1895 depending on country of origin....I think. It does appear it"s been around the barn once or twice.
